Even though Barcelona football was playing last night and their was a lot of celebrating going on we both had a sound nights sleep at last. I guess it was a combination of our body clocks finally adjusting and also getting used to the Street noise.
I had some haggling yesterday evening with the local traders. A sweatshirt that was priced at 40 Euro got reduced to 15 and a T-shirt that was marked at 17 Euro got purchased for 10. Felt a little sorry for the second guy though as I got him down to 12 Euros I asked him if he would sell 2 for 20, he refused. Then as we were leaving the shop, almost out the door he stopped us and agreed to the 20 for 2 at which point I told him I only wanted the one, for 10 Euros. He was swearing in something I didn't understand but I was sure was not good when he grudgingly agreed. We made a quick exit out the shop.
Last night was awesome, the combination of the local dancing, the street celebrations and the magic of the old part of Barcelona made for a great final evening. I must admit I had my doubts about Barcelona before we arrived. It had never been a City that interested me and with all the things that I had heard about it being the pick pocket capital of Europe. I was wrong to have my doubts, this is a great city and I am pleased that I had the opportunity to spend time here.
Amazing to walk these streets, some of which are incredibly narrow not knowing what you will find around the corner; sometimes a beautiful City square, sometimes a very talented Busker and mostly but, most often, even narrower Street leading to another.
Shortly be heading out to breakfast at a great little restaurant/bar called Tapas Gaudi which is 3 doors up from our hotel. Bacon,Egg,Toast, Orange Juice and best of all Coffee all for under 6 Euros.
Then its off to the bus terminal to catch our ride to the ship. It dosen't sail until 5.00 PM but I figure we will arrive at the docks between 12-1.00.
This is normally the part of the holiday, you know the part your 7 days in, just starting to unwind but also in countdown mode until you return to work. Great to have the unwinding without the countdown.
Hope the Ship sails as smooth as Maggie tells me it will. I am not a great sea travellor despite my British heritage but we do have Gravol packed just in case. I am going to try and upgrade to a better stateroom, one with a porthole would be good, if possible as long as the price is right. You see I have recharged my haggling batteries.
Post again soon.
John.
Good Morning, Happy Mothers Day to Maggie,
ReplyDeleteJohn, Babs would like me to let you know that she thanks you for her card and gift and wants you to know that she Loves You. Today we are cleaning the office, grocery shoping and getting ready for work tomorrow. Sure would rather be with you two. Love Kat
Hi Maggie and John!
ReplyDeleteYour trip sounds absolutely fantastic! Am I ever glad that you started this blog - makes you both just a little bit closer as well as allowing me to take a vacation with you (albeit a pretend vacation!).
Let's see - you want to know what's going on...hmmm...I had a wonderful Mother's Day yesterday. Liam made me a beautiful card and wrote me a poem too! We spent the day delivering his newspapers, planting some flowers, walking the dogs and watching a movie. Todd made a spectacular roast beef dinner with Yorkshire pudding (yum!)
I have great news about our dog Patti - we bought a Halti for her. It goes over her snout and the leash is attached to it - kind of like what horses wear. When she pulls, the halti forces her to close her mouth. The result? A dog that walks beside you rather than pulling you down the street. I look pretty silly being pulled down the road by a 3 legged boxer!
I hope you were able to secure a room on the ship with a porthole - let us know, okay?
Have a blast! We are all waiting for the next blog updates!
Love, Sheilah
Hi john - all is well at the office - just wanted to give you a quick update - Evan's transfer arrived today (yippee) - and while I hate to bring this up - do you discount Harold M's trades - did a couple yesterday and I could not tell if you discount - thats it for work - cant tell you how much we all miss you - have fun - everything is going swimmingly!
