Barcelona ~ On the Buses!

Today, this was our mode of transportation. For a 'one day' fee, you can ride on these open topped buses (three routes - red, green and blue) and you can hop on and off as a site hits your fancy This is one of the sites that we got off and walked around. It is called the Sagrada Familia Catherdral which was started by a local hero, Antoni Gaudi, in the late 1800s. He was aware that it would not be completed in his life time and he was correct as there was only one tower competed by his death in 1926. When the catherdral is complete it will have 18 towers, trees, birds, snakes, lizards, gargoyles. saints, the holy family... It has been constantly in construction for over 100 years and is still many years to completion.

As our time clocks are not yet adjusted and, about 1 PM, we needed a caffeine boost. So we stopped into one of many local Starbucks. Please note John's 2 oz. double grande expresso. Claims that it set him up for at least a further 15 minutes. Getting enough caffeine is a challenge as refills are never offered.

This is an amazing local market selling everything from fruits, nuts, ham sandwiches and, even, beer. The fruit and veggies are beautiful and they are arranged so wonderfully that you do not want to disturb them. I am the larger orange blob in the centre of this shot. We stumbled on this later in the day so I am going to have to check it out tomorrow morning.

John was a good samaritan this evening and loaned my hairdryer and adapter to two strangers. He is so lucky they decided to return it. He thought that was something I would do. Little does he know a girl and her hair care products.
We only get CNN and BBC in English and are aware of the problems in Greece, the continuation of the volcanic action in Iceland and the Stock Markets meltdown. Can you imagine John's anxiety? He may never go on holiday again so I better make this one count.
The bells in all the local churches are ringing in the hour. They do not appear to be synchronized as it does go on for sometime. Really a lovely sound.
