Athens ~ The Agora ~ Day 3

Today is a walking day which can only be done in small bursts as it is exceedingly hot. Do not know what the day's high was but, at 5 PM in a shaded room, the temperature is 88 degrees. I have perspired less in saunas than I have for the past few days. In spite of drinking lots of fluids, John and I sometimes feel nauseous but we find some shade and a cold drink and are ready to soldier on.

In case you can not read the poster, Billy Idol is in concert soon (we can not read Greek so do not know the date) as well as Jerry Lee Lewis (can you imagine his act as he must be well over 75).

The Agora is the name of the village which existed at the time of the construction of the Acropolis and sits at the bottom of the hill under it. As we keep finding out, these civilizations were remarkably advanced with written language, engineered sewers and social and political system. Much of this area is in ruins with the exception of a smaller temple built in honour of Zeus (possibly - there are so many temples dedicated to him) which sits on a hill smaller than the Acropolis overlooking the village. The site is very peaceful with many paths leading to bits of columns or sculptures. Only a few people and a couple of dogs throughout the whole site to keep us company.
